Monthly Full moon Ceremony in preparation for Ilhuicaatl Metzli Danza / Where the Sky meets the Water Moondance.
Honoring the full moon by gathering for an evening of Cantos, Ritual, y Rezos in Abuela Xochiketzalli’s casita in Eureka Ca. All dancers, supporters, or community members interested in this annual danza are welcome. Co-ed gathering with children welcome. Donations welcome.
We begin the evening practicing ceremonial songs sung during our annual Moondance ceremony, then we will move into a Faqua Ceremony, and we close lifting up our prayers under the moonlight with our obsidian chanupas.
Huehuetl Citalli is our mother drum for Ilhuicaatl Metzli Danza. We gather around her to practice each month’s puerta/set of cuicatl.
Faqua es una chicha de maiz / A sacred fermented corn drink with an indigenous lineage from Columbia. After our practice of cantos we then make our sacred corn beverage for the following Sunday’s Temazcalli. We gather around a fire outdoors if the weather is dry or indoors around the stove.
Las Obsidian Chanupas are lunar pipes filled with tobacco and come from the moondance lineage. We close the night with all danzantes lifting up their prayers en rezo with their pipas de obsidiana under the light of the moon.
We gather the Friday near the full moon at 6:00pm till 9/10pm
Welcome to bring snacks to share.
