Day of the Dead

Festival of Altars

Dia de Muertos is a time of venerating our loved ones and the dead thru ofrendas, danza, musica, comida, and cultural expression. Humboldt’s Day of the Dead Festival of Altars is a unique offering of love for the community as a free event that focuses on ceremony and ritual.

Festival of Altars brings Latinx community members and All who are interested together to create personal family altars, themed altars, and one grand community altar inside the gazebo.

Free Annual Community Event for All People

Gazebo/Square in Old Town, Eureka CA

This annual event honors our loved ones while staying true to our traditions on not monetizing this celebration as it becomes more and more popular in the US. The truth is, Day of the Dead is now a colonized “holiday” as our Mexica ancestors actually celebrated our ancestors daily, but more specifically during the ventenas of Tlaxochimaco and Xocotl huetzi (40 day period in August & September).

Nevertheless, its important to continue to honor our loved ones and pay them their respects in this Ancient Mexica Tradition and Ritual.

Dia de muertos festival de Altares in HUMBOLDT is an annual celebration of culture, tradition, and our ancestors brought by “Humboldt Brujas,” two friends that came together to create Eureka Old Towns first Day of the Dead Festival of Altars back in 2019.

Vegan, it’s a Culture event to celebrate all our ancestors!
